It seems like eons have already passed since you last rummaged through your big brother’s porn stash and got to know these women, who have starred in some of the most memorable hardcore films ever made. Ever wondered what became of them?

1. Bambi Woods

Bambi Woods is perhaps one of the most, if not the most enigmatic porn star of them all. After catapulting to fame as a cheerleader in Debbie Does Dallas and doing two sequels, she mysteriously dropped off the radar. Rumors of her eventual fate ranged from her appearing in strip joints across the United States to dying of a drug overdose in 1986, but none of these were ever confirmed. Then, in May 2007, the website Yesbutnobutyes published an interview purportedly that of Woods, where she claimed to be “financially well-off”, and living with her husband of more than two decades and their two teenage children somewhere in California.

Still, the interviewer admitted in a postscript that he’s not really certain that it was really Woods he was talking to, that he could have very well been suckered into a hoax. So, to this day, the real fate of Debbie remains a big question mark.

2. Ashlyn Gere

Ashlyn Gere belonged to that rare breed of porn stars who have managed to get mainstream jobs while still appearing prominently in hardcore films. Basic Instinct and Indecent Proposal had her as a body double, and she also landed roles in TV shows such as Space: Above and Beyond, Silk Stalkings and Millennium. One of the most enthusiastic performers in porn during her heyday, Ashlyn, 48, has hung up her porn shoes for good in the early 2000s, and is now living and working in Texas as real estate agent. She also has one child with producer/director Marshall Patton, with whom she has been married for twenty years.

3. Nina Hartley

Long before Jenna Jameson, there was Nina Hartley, one of the earliest porn stars whose name is a registered trademark. At 48, she is still very much active in the adult business, due to the demand for MILF porn. Apart from doing mainstream projects like the 1997 film “Boogie Nights”, she also directs porn videos these days, as well acts as a spokesperson for the industry as a whole, even appearing on Oprah defending her chosen profession. she also runs her own website.

4. Asia Carrera

Arguably the most intelligent pornstar ever (she’s a member of MENSA, and was a full academic scholar at Rutgers University), Asia Carrera has since retired from porn in 2003, and got married to a nutritionist named Don Lemmon that very same year. When she was 8 months pregnant with their second child, Lemmon was killed in a car accident near Las Vegas in June 2006. His death threw her into a financial crisis, but she soon got back on her feet thanks to Lemmon’s life insurance policy.

The following month, she gave birth to their son Devin at home, unassisted.

She continues to run her own website, but she has since stated that she doesn’t plan on making a porn comeback.

5. Ginger Lynn

Ginger Lynn found herself doing mainstream projects after quitting the business in 1986. She was in Young Guns II, The Devil’s Rejects, American Pie Band Camp, and National Lampoon’s Van Wilder the Rise of Taj. Ginger also took on TV roles, appearing in such shows as Silk Stalkings and NYPD Blue. Among her most memorable turns was in the music video for the Metallica song “Turn the Page”.

In 1999, she decided to return to porn via three movies, Torn, White Lightning, and New Wave Hookers 6. Then she teamed up with fellow porn legend Christy Canyon in 2006, hosting Playboy Radio’s Sirius Satellite Radio show, Night Calls Radio.

Recently, the now-44-year-old Ginger did a hardcore scene with boyfriend, veteran porn stud Mark Davis, for the site Kink.com.

6. Seka

Believe it or not, the legendary Seka is still very much active in the porn industry. She actually retired from doing scenes in the early 90s and took on the roles of porn industry advocate, talk show host and documentary film maker. But in a February 2007 interview with Pitch magazine, based in Kansas City where she has been residing since 2005, Seka announced that she had just shot her first hardcore scene in nearly 15 years, at age 52. The scene was to be available on-line through pay-per-view.

7. Marilyn Chambers

Marilyn Chambers, star of the 1972 porn classic Behind the Green Door, left the industry in 1976. She decided to do hardcore again in 1980, but retired once more in 1982, opting to do R-rated movies. Seventeen years later, she returned to the porn fold and has stayed since, continuing to appear in productions for such companies as Naughty America and MILF Hunter.

8. Christy Canyon

While officially retired from performing in adult films, the voluptuous Christy Canyon hasn’t really said goodbye to porn. She maintains her own website, as well as co-hosts Night Calls on Playboy Radio with Ginger Lynn. Canyon also acted as judge on the first episode of the pay-per-view reality series Jenna’s American Sex Star.

9. Kay Parker

Kay Parker, who played the incestuous mother in the porn classic Taboo, retired from the industry in 1998 after making a total of 68 movies. She is now, of all things, a New Age metaphysical counselor and lecturer, as well as author of the 2001 autobiographical book Taboo: Sacred, Don’t Touch.

Parker also appeared in the 2005 independent film Dick Ho: Asian Male Porn Star, playing herself.

10. Amber Lynn

Amber Lynn is still very much active in the business. While she has retired from the business twice, she eventually returned to making hardcore films. With the demand for MILF–themed movies on the rise, Amber, now 44, still appears in films from time to time, doing productions for Naughty America such as My Friend’s Hot Mom and My First Sex Teacher.
