As the adult film industry becomes more and more mainstream, porn studios are also starting to adopt mainstream business practices as well. One such practice is that when hiring porn talent, few go through recruiters anymore, because either they already have their own staffing/casting people to look for talent for them, or they turn to the many adult modeling agencies to provide quality talent for their projects.

However, that doesn’t mean that you don’t have a place in the porn talent recruitment business anymore because, let’s face it, it’s just not possible for any one porn studio or talent agency to spot all the hot, young and willing talent out there, is it? For all you know, the next Jenna Jameson or Tera Patrick could just be living next door to you.

So how do you start out finding quality talent? Placing ads in alternative newspapers in your area or adjacent larger cities is a good idea. Or better yet, you can advertise for beautiful young girls who are willing to make a career in porn in the “adult gigs” section of Craigslist.

Still, nothing beats going out and looking for them yourself. Among the good areas to personally spot good porn talent is at strip clubs. In fact, many of the biggest names in porn today had their start in the adult entertainment industry by stripping.

But your search for quality porn talent should not be limited to strip clubs or any such establishment in the skin trade. It is the world’s worst-kept secret that many of the top porn stars today were discovered right there in the street, in the mall, in hotel elevators, in casinos, in colleges or just about everywhere.

So if you think a pretty girl you just spotted in a diner or a club has the qualities necessary to make it in the adult film business, approach her nicely and be upfront about your intentions to prove that you are all business. Of course, a disgusted look, an invective or two, or worse, a slap in the face is a risk that comes along with the job. Out of 40 or 50 people you approach, you probably could bump into at least one who would be willing to embark on a porn career.

But recruiting adult talent is more than just searching for a pretty face and a hot body. When someone finally shows interest in your offers, you have to determine what her performing limitations are. This is simply because the pay scale, and therefore your cut, depends on what she’s willing to do in front of a camera. As far as newbies in porn are concerned, the more hardcore the act, the bigger the paycheck.

Now a lot of people would definitely condemn the practice of many porn scouts of having their discoveries perform with them on a “promotional” or “demo” tape, which they then hawk to prospective producers. Unethical-sounding as it may be, the practice seems to be a very good way to gauge how uninhibited (obviously, a must for aspiring porn stars) and good at sex your find could be. As scouts doing this have been saying, how could these girls perform with strangers on tape on a regular basis if they have qualms about doing it with them? Not exactly a recommended practice, but it does make sense somehow.

But of course, before doing anything like this, it is recommended that you do safety checks. And by safety checks we mean health checks, as well as age checks, to determine that the girl you’re recruiting is of legal age. You don’t really want to end up with another Traci Lords, do you?
